A specialist in the early modern theater of Spain, Dr. Carol Kirby has taught a wide variety of courses in Spanish language and peninsular literature and culture since coming to Buffalo State in 1985. Her research interests include Spain's Early Modern period (also known as the Spanish Golden Age), in which area she has published numerous articles, as well as three books which constitute extensive studies and editions of three different seventeenth-century history plays.
She has frequently served as coordinator of the Spanish section, is an active adviser to students in the B.A. and B.S. programs in Spanish, and is faculty sponsor of the National Spanish Honorary (Sigma Delta Pi).
In 2004, Kirby received the President's Award for Excellence in Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity.
