Dr. Deborah Hovland is the creator of the Professional French and Francophone Studies tracks of the French B.A. program. A medievalist by training, her teaching and research interests include bilingual, bicultural professional communication; French Caribbean and North American literature, history and culture; the staging and performance practices of 12th-17th century French drama; medieval and early modern culinary history; and the medieval French romance.

In 2000, Dr. Hovland received the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching.
